BECOOL project experience and know-how will be shared with other stakeholders within the bioenergy field on the occasion of the 26th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition in Copenhagen, Denmark. Three different studies will be hosted inside the poster area, where visitors will be able to ask for more information to the authors in person.
On May 15 from 17:00 until 18:30 p.m., Myrsini Christou of the Center for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving, Biomass -CRES- (Greece) will be present to answer on questions about “Biomass Production and Feedstock Diversification for Advanced Biofuels: the Becool Project”. This paper focuses on the implementation of biomass production and diversification strategies within EU-Brazil cooperation on advanced lignocellulosic biofuels fostered by BECOOL project. Biomass supply system will take advantage of innovative cropping rotation systems and of crop residues integration with lignin-rich residues derived from the biochemical conversion of lignocellulosic feedstock to advanced ethanol.
On May 17 from 13:30 until 15:00 p.m., two posts will be introduced: first one is titled “Sunn Hemp, a Promising Leguminous Energy Crop as Inter-Cropping System: Preliminary Results for Spain”. Carlos Sixto Ciria Ramos of CIEMAT will be present to further deepen Spanish experimentation of BECOOL solution consisting of introducing energy crops as intercrops within traditional food crops rotations to develop a non-food-competitive biofuel demand and to avoid ILUC effects (Indirect Land Use Change). Last post is named “Perennial Grasses as Sources for Bioenergy and Bio-Products” and it will be presented by Efthymia Alexopoulou from Center for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving -CRES- (Greece). This study focuses on the cultivation of perennial grasses such as switchgrass, miscanthus and giant reed on marginal lands: such process, whose research is funded under BECOOL and MAGIC project, may provide valuable sources for bioenergy and bioproducts.
